Tower Asset Management's equity investment philosophy emphasizes focuses on investing in the common stocks of well-established, financially strong and well managed medium to large companies that offer above average growth prospects at reasonable/attractive valuations and are leaders in their respective industries. Companies should possess a strong or unique business franchise or competency and have a history of delivering superior financial performance that is consistent regardless of the business cycle. Companies should also have accelerating growth in revenues and earnings, strong cash flows and a history of low stock price volatility. Though not limited by sector or market-cap, Tower tends to invest in the stocks of large-cap companies in the consumer non-durables, health technology and technology services sectors. The firm invests primarily in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Tower maintains a high turnover rate. Tower employs both a top-down sector weighting process and a bottom-up selection process. Quantitative screens and fundamental analysis are used to reduce the universe to an active watch list. The firm overlays sector strategy considerations with additional screening and analysis to construct portfolios. Tower seeks to identify sectors within the markets that possess superior fundamentals and the prospects for superior growth over the longer term. The firm emphasizes certain sectors when major demographic and economic trends that benefit those sectors are identified. The firm manages risk by diversifying common stock portfolios across economic sectors, industries and companies. Economic sector weightings within a portfolio are limited relative to the appropriate benchmark index. Security position sizes are also limited. Holdings may be sold either partially or in full for reasons that include deteriorating fundamentals, loss of management focus, excessive valuation or due to the identification of a better investment opportunity. Tower manages investment grade bond portfolios with a passive investment approach. Portfolios are structured using a laddered investment strategy. When investing in bonds, Tower considers the tax status of the account, income required from the portfolio and credit quality.
