Firsthand Technology Value Fund, Inc. (the Fund) is a venture capital fund that invests in technology and cleantech companies. The Fund’s investment objective is to seek long-term growth of capital, principally by seeking capital gains on its equity and equity-related investments. Under normal circumstances, the Fund invests at least 80% of its net assets for investment purposes in technology companies. In addition, under normal circumstances, the Fund invests at least 70% of its total assets in privately held companies and public companies with market capitalizations of less than $250 million. The Fund may also invest in micro-cap publicly traded companies. In addition, the Fund may invest up to 30% of the portfolio in opportunistic investments that do not constitute private companies and micro-cap public companies. The Fund’s other investments include investments in bonds, distressed debt, and others. Firsthand Capital Management, Inc. serves as the investment adviser to the Fund.
