The decline was driven by a further acceleration in the price drop of tropical commodities (-19.4% after -12.6%), particularly cocoa, which plunged by 29.9% following a 15.2% decrease.
Sugar prices also retreated (-4.5% after -1.2%), as did cereal prices (-0.5% after -2.8%).
Conversely, meat prices rose again (+1.4% after +0.9%). Oilseed prices rebounded (+2.0% after -0.9%), along with seafood prices (+0.8% after -3.8%).
On a year-on-year basis, food commodity prices have fallen sharply (-23.3%), weighed down notably by the collapse in prices for tropical commodities (-51.8%), sugar (-37.8%), cereals (-19.5%), and seafood (-13.9%).
Insee: food commodity prices fall in February
According to the French national statistics office, Insee, euro-denominated food commodity prices continued their downward trend in February 2026, falling by 4.2% following a 4.7% drop in January.
