Prior to joining Gartner, Dr. Opfer was director of advanced head/media programs at Read-Rite.
Before that, he served as Komag group vice president of research and development.
As a Komag Fellow, Dr. Opfer developed proposals for advanced thin-film magnetic research and development in association with the National Storage Industry Consortium.
Dr. Opfer earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University and a doctorate in physics from Washington University.
