3i VC is an active manager which works as a global team to select approximately twenty early- to late-stage investments per year. They aim to invest in companies with exceptional leadership, entrepreneurial flair, proven technical and business expertise, innovative technology and the vision to create a new market or gain significant share of an existing market. The firm prefers to lead or co-lead investments, and selects opportunities where they can create and realize significant value, take board seats and achieve exits via trade sales or IPOs. They target the healthcare, communications, software and ESAT (electronics, semiconductors and advanced technologies) sectors in Europe, the US and Asia. They invest in a series of funding rounds, separating 'first investments' (in businesses where 3i is not already invested) and 'further investments'. 3i VC actively supports their investee companies, making introductions and offering strategic guidance to accelerate their success. The majority of the firm's venture capital investment is made directly from 3i's balance sheet.
