Prior to joining Legg Mason, he worked as a Staff Vice President, Actuary at Wellpoint and as an Assistant Vice President, Segment Controller at CIGNA Healthcare.
Prior to Wellpoint and CIGNA, he oversaw Mobil's international pension plans and served as an Employee Benefit Consultant at Towers Perrin and Buck Consultants.
He earned an M.P.A. and a B.B.A. in Accounting with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin where he was an Outstanding Business Student.
He is a CPA, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and is fluent in three languages.
Mr. Kan received the CFA designation in 2000.
