Profile

Dr. Newton is Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance and has been the head of the entrepreneurship program at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California since 1990.
Prior to that he taught for five years in the MBA program at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, and one year at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
He worked for two years in investment banking in Boston in the early '80's before entering academia, and remains an active consultant in the areas of small firm financial strategy, venture capital, IPO's, and firm valuation to more than 100 fast-growth entrepreneurial firms since 1984.
He has a BSBA, and MBA in finance, and a DBA in entrepreneurial finance.
He is the founder and managing director of the Westmont Small Business Barometer on California's Silicon Beach technology corridor, past Chief Economist to Hispanic Business magazine, and former member of the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Small Business Strategy.
His is also Contributing Editor on Growth Capital for Industry Week Growing Companies magazine and Contributing Editor on Business Financing for Entrepreneur.com (the Entrepreneur magazine on-line small firm consulting site) and the on-line expert moderator on Small-Cap Investing for eraider.com (Wall Street's first and only publicly-traded small-cap take-over fund).
He is the author of Entrepreneurial Ethics (Kendall-Hunt, 1997), How To Be A Small-Cap Investor (McGraw-Hill, 1999), Money magazine's "Nov.'99 book-of-the-month" and a Forbes "Top-10 in Investments for '99", and How To Be An Internet-Stock Investor (McGraw-Hill, 2000).
Growth Capital and Entrepreneurial Finance is due out in February 2001.
