Sodexo secures new contract with Rio Tinto in the Pilbara
Sodexo has announced that it has been awarded a new facilities management services contract for Rio Tinto's fly-in fly-out (FIFO) accommodation villages, residential housing, and operational sites in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
The seven-year agreement, which includes a three-year extension option, is set to commence in June 2026. This follow-on contract comes after a previous 10-year partnership between the two groups and was awarded following a global partner selection process.
The new contract places a strong emphasis on local procurement and supports Indigenous employment, 'creating economic opportunities for the Traditional Owners of the Pilbara, local businesses, and communities'.
Sodexo's scope of work will include accommodation, catering, retail services, access to health and wellbeing programs, cleaning, transport, airfield management, as well as groundskeeping and building maintenance.
The contract also covers the maintenance and renovation of Rio Tinto's 2,900 houses and over 19,000 FIFO accommodation rooms across 25 villages in the Pilbara. It will continue to support approximately 2,500 Sodexo jobs in Western Australia.

The group offers onsite services: meal preparation, management of restaurants, reception and conference centers, reception services, mail processing, transport, cleaning, gardening, technical maintenance, security, facility management, sanitation, etc.
Net sales break down by market between companies and government departments (47.4%), healthcare facilities and senior-citizen residences (24.3%), schools and universities (19.7%) and entertainment (9.6%; Sodexo Live!).
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: Europe (35.7%), North America (46.4%), Asia/Pacific/Middle East/Africa/Latin America (17.9%).
